On 27 April 2005 at 10.29am local time (8:29am UTC), the first A380 (MSN -Manufacturial Serial Number-001), registered F-WWOW, took off from Toulouse-Blagnac for its first flight lasting 3 hours and 54 minutes, without a hitch.  At present, four planes have conducted their inaugural flight, in a different order from their construction order. Lufthansa is purchasing a total of 15 A380s, all of which will be based at Frankfurt.  The A380 is extremely fuel-efficient, requiring a mere 3.3. litres of fuel to carry one passenger 100 kilometres. It is also quieter than today's long-range aircraft, and will reduce noise within airport environs.
