The Hawker Typhoon was a single-seat heavy fighter which evolved to succeed Hurricane of WWII. Prototypes ordered in early 1938 by the Royal Air Force were first flown on 24 February 1940, the production aircraft was flown at Brockworth on 27 May 1941. Service introduction commenced September 1941 in No. 56 Squadron RAF and was first in operation on 30 May 1942.
